Your Blog: Building A Community
Being a travel pro, you are, in a sense, “the popular kid.” You’re the one that people gravitate to. You’re the one with great stories and experiences that everyone wants to know about. This is a great opportunity to use your blog (and social media) to create a fun, cool, inclusive community.
The beauty of blogs (and social media) is that they are open conversations and a meeting place of sorts. You can start the conversation and welcome others in to make it a truly collaborative, community-inspired experience. When you put a blog post up, for example, encourage your good friends and co-workers to make comments first. This will “break the ice” and let all of your readers know that it is perfectly acceptable to jump in. This first level of encouragement lets people know that you are an “open book” and that they are truly part of a community.
A blog is only one step.
Use your Facebook Fan Page and Twitter to continue to conversation. All the while, give them an opportunity to get back in touch with you somehow. Relationships and conversations are built in many ways and in many different places now. If you are informative and fun, people can’t help but jump in to be part of it.
As you build these connections, you’ll build affinity, likability and trust. By doing this, you will create a strong connection — and potentially new sources of business.
