I participated on a great panel at LTE discussing how agents can use technology to help grow their business. Not surprisingly, a lot of the emphasis was on agents using social media tools. The good news is that there appears to be a growing consensus that social media is a perfect fit for travel agents, because when you think about it, travel agents are social networkers. And social media tools can make agents even more effective at what they already do naturally.
Having spent that last several months on a pilot program which explored ways travel agents can incorporate social media into their business, our feeling is that no one is missing the boat on social media at this point – we are very early on, and everyone is experimenting. And the better news from LTE was that everyone is feeling the same way. No one yet has all the answers. It’s a crawl, walk, run strategy. But the key point is to get started now.
Passport Online recommends starting with Facebook, Twitter, your own blog, and integrating all three with each other and with your agency website. After all, you ultimately want your clients to go to your “Digital Storefront” as part of their travel research and shopping experience. Just last week we announced our social media guide for travel agents, to help agents get started with social media. We’re also providing a hands-on service to help you get there even faster.
As we see more travel agent success stories, we’ll pass them on.
