Headlines – the most important and overlooked area of your site

Headlines are easy to overlook when you’re building your website. However, a good headline can help your customers immensly. Any idea why?

As I discussed previously, generally people aren’t reading every word of your website, they’re likely scanning looking for information that is related to their current needs. Headlines help to guide customers towards the information they are looking for.

Lets take a look at an example, when I wrote my InterContinental Resort and Spa Moorea review, I could have skipped all the headlines, however if a potential customer is really only interested in the details about the room, why make them read about the check-in process, dining, etc? That’s just likely to make them click the “back” button and find another site to answer their question. However when you look at the page and see the headlines, you know you can scroll down to find the general type of information you’re looking for.
