Facebook Is Social Media (and Marketing) Power For Travel Agent
Three parts of this article that stood out to us immediately (though all were good to know) were: the amount of time that Americans spend on Facebook, Facebook’s popularity, and how Facebook boosts sales and loyalty.
How much time do you spend on Facebook per month?
According to the study in this article, the average American spent 7 hours on Facebook. That may not seem like too much. But, when you consider that Americans spent only 2 hours on Google and 25 minutes on Amazon, you can see that Facebook is the main place people flock to. The second study that made an impact to us was Facebook’s popularity. It is the second most popular site in the world — behind Google.
This is a clear indication of Facebook’s power and illustrates, with strong data, that travel agents need to have a Fan Page on Facebook. This is where people are going constantly, every day and it is vital to have a presence here.
The third article that jumped out was related to sales and loyalty. In the study, it showed that a Houston-based retail bakery and cafe chain saw a nice uptick in loyalty and sales — and they used a Facebook Fan page to great effect. According to Social Media Examiner (and the study), over the course of three months, the company, “updated its page several times a week with pictures of goodies, news about contests and promotions, links to favorable reviews, and introductions to DG employees.”
As a travel agent, you have similar “goodies.” You can (and should) update your page several times a week with pictures from your last vacation, photos and reviews from a fam trip, news about contests, links to resort reviews, introductions to your agents and anything else that you can share with consumers on Facebook. Most of what travel agents do is worth sharing. Use your Facebook Fan Page as much as you can — it’s one of the best places to get the conversation going.
And don’t forget to promote that fact to your customers constantly.
Once you do that, those 7 hours that people spend on Facebook become even more valuable to your agency. Facebook is where you can build even more loyalty and, ultimately, more sales.
