Blogs and Baseball
I have to admit that I’ve been reluctant to jump into the blogosphere. I’m sure that what I say can and will be used against me in the court of travel. But what the heck – everyone’s doing it nowadays, and so now it’s time for Passport Online to jump in as well. And maybe I should be taking the advice that I recently gave to my 14 year old son who is in the middle of the baseball season, and a part time pitcher. I told Kevin not to worry about all the stuff that could happen when he’s on the mound. Instead, just try and focus on the current batter, and try and think about executing what you’ve been taught. One batter at a time. I’ll let you know if my brilliant advice works. But that’s basically what we’re going to do at Passport Online. We’re going to see where blogging takes us, one post at a time, starting now. And we’ll share what we learn with our agency clients who, now that they are really getting their arms around what it means to successfully use their websites, are now moving into the world of social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, and blogging.
One thing I know for sure – if you’re going to start a blog, make sure you go all the way with it. I can’t believe the sites out there with blogs where the last post was made before my son started playing baseball. How bad does that look? Taking a great tool and turning it into a self-inflicted wound. So we’re going to have several of our own folks post periodically, each person with a different perspective on a variety of marketing and technical topics. Each day we work with an amazing variety of companies in leisure travel. When I meet with clients and perspective clients, and tell the Passport Online story, a common comment I hear is ‘wow, you guys work with everybody’. And what that means is that we really are seeing everything in this business. We’re hearing the trends straight from the clients, before they go public. Clearly, we won’t betray confidences, but using our newfangled blog we’ll try and keep you updated with the best of what we learn, hot off the press.
Talk to you soon.
